The garden in June and July
April & May | June & July | August & September
The scenery changes in June and July and in the Lower Garden, Magnolias, Hypoleuca Obovata, Nigra and Stellata come into flower at the same time as the Drymus Winteri and the magnificent Davidia Involucrata (The Handkerchief Tree). Rambing Rector, Bobbie James, Wedding Day, Blush Rambler and Felicite et Perpetue roses cover the perimeter walls, with many unusual perennials and flowering shrubs in the borders.
In the Upper garden the herbaceous borders are really beginning to fill out now, showing up the colour scheme, which ranges from white at the bottom to hot, dark colours at the very top. Roses, lathyrus, hardy geraniums and marigolds, which make the garden very attractive to human visitors and beneficial to insects, surround the strawberries, peas, beans and courgettes.
